1. Ray - Jamie Foxx's portrayal of the late music legend Ray Charles deserves an Oscar nomination, and perhaps a medal for rescuing an otherwise standard film biography.

2. Team America: World Police - South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone pull the strings on a hilarious political satire manned by marionettes and filled with tasteless songs and bipartisan smut.

3. Friday Night Lights - High school football coach (Billy Bob Thornton) deals with Texas-sized expectations in a kinetic, disjointed film based on Buzz Bissinger's bestselling book.

4. Shall We Dance? - Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez prove the seductiveness of ballroom dancing but not in the way you may expect.

5. The Final Cut - Robin Williams downplays a futuristic editor of people's memories. Erratic but fundamentally fascinating science fiction.
