Editor: I want to thank the St. Petersburg Times for informing the general public about my qualifications and my sincere commitment to run for the position of School Board District 2.
The quality of education for my daughters, Caitlin and Shannon, and all other children in the county is of utmost importance to me. If elected I will work hard to strengthen and improve the education of our county's youth. We need to nourish and develop the skills that will empower our children and our grandchildren to preserve for future generations the promise of liberty and opportunity that has always existed in the United States.
Excellence in student achievement depends greatly upon having dedicated educators who are highly skilled, thoroughly trained and fairly compensated. Increased salaries, along with incentives for professional career development, will aid in teacher recruitment and retention.
Future growth in our population is a given with all the newly proposed development. Much work needs to be done in the areas of planning and design of new schools. I will promote architectural standardization for the planning and construction of new schools to contain costs. At the same time, we need to better preserve our existing facilities. I will promote cost-effective preventive maintenance of our existing school infrastructure.
Please consider voting for Pat Fagan for School Board District 2 on Nov. 2. Your vote of confidence would be very much appreciated and I won't let you down.
