Zook looking for better returns

Published October 29, 2004

GAINESVILLE - After starting the season as the primary punt returner, Florida cornerback Vernell Brown was passed on the depth chart by wide receiver Chad Jackson . However, in a swirling wind in Starkville, Miss., last weekend, Jackson had trouble securing the ball on two occasions.

Coach Ron Zook said he will see how the two perform in pregame warmups before deciding who will field the first punt.

"We'll see who looks more smooth," Zook said. "They both can do it and they both work hard on it. Chad can do it. He just had trouble with his concentration, focus and the wind (last week)."

INJURY CONCERNS: Linebacker Travis Harris tested his injured right ankle without a boot for the first time this week. Zook maintains that Harris could play.

Offensive tackle Jonathan Colon also is battling an ankle injury. Zook said he is at about 90 percent but was quick to add that he will need to be at full strength Saturday.

"I don't know if 90 percent is going to be good enough against (Georgia defensive end David) Pollack ," he said.
