ORLANDO - Three adults and three children were found dead Thursday in an east-central Orange County home filled with a lethal level of carbon monoxide, sheriff's officials said.
The engine of a vehicle in the two-car garage had been running but had stopped, said Sheriff Kevin Beary. There was no sign of forced entry at the house and no outward sign of injuries to the victims.
Officials did not release the victims' identities or ages.
A neighbor with a key to the single-family home went to check on the residents late Thursday afternoon after not seeing the children during the day, Beary said. Seeing the bodies, he backed out of the house and immediately called authorities.
Arriving firefighters smelled something inside and donned breathing masks, Beary said. Gas meters registered deadly levels of carbon monoxide. The firefighters checked the bodies and got out, Beary said.
Beary did not say where the bodies were found. Medical examiners waited for the home to be cleared of gas before entering.
The house is in the Waterford Chase subdivision, east of Orlando in a booming area.
A neighbor told the Associated Press nothing had appeared amiss at the house, although the usually open garage door had been closed recently, as though the residents were away.
