It's only fair that Brown catches heat

Published October 31, 2004

Let me see if I have this straight. As an ignorant fan, I am supposed to defer to the genius of Tim "Fair Catch" Brown and not criticize his boneheaded decisions because it might hurt his wife's feelings?

Sorry, but last time I checked, football was entertainment, and we ignorant fans pay his salary. Maybe he can explain why he has such trouble making up his mind whenever the ball is kicked within the 20 yard line? I have seen him make fair catches when the nearest player is five yards away, catch others when he is inside the 10, and let some drop, as he did last weekend at the 22, and get downed at somewhere around the 4.

Seems fair to me that the fans let him know that his decision-making stinks. I also question whether he can take the hits when he says, "I'm not out there returning punts for my health, that's for sure."

In watching the Bucs beat the Bears I noticed a definite improvement in the amount of time the Bucs offensive line afforded Griese to carve up the secondary. As I studied how the line was executing, I concluded that this improvement can be attributed to their practice on a specific area: lateral quickness.

Jon Gruden said, "We are the best 1-5 team in the NFL." Well now we are the best 2-5 team in the NFL and are only going to improve. Now entering their bye week, the Bucs will have a chance to rest and get healthy. Another big plus is the schedule. I have never seen a more favorable schedule in the second half of the season.
