U.S. Rep. Michael Bilirakis easily glided back into office Tuesday with a commanding lead over write-in candidate Andrew Pasayan of Holiday.
Bilirakis, vice chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee, had campaigned by touting his legislation to increase benefits for disabled veterans, his sponsorship of a bill designed to facilitate organ donation and his work on a new Medicare prescription drug benefit. Pasayan, 86, a security guard, said he wanted Americans to consume less tobacco, pork and beef.
Bilirakis, 74, R-Tarpon Springs, has served in Congress since 1982 and says his new term will be his last. He represents House District 9, which includes portions of western Pasco, northern Pinellas and northern and eastern Hillsborough counties.
