Movie: The Incredibles
Rating: PG for action violence
Summary: Bob Parr (voice of Craig T. Nelson) once fought crime as Mr. Incredible, a superhero with super strength. Now, along with all of his former superhero partners, he has been forced to live a civilian life for his own safety. His family (a wife and three young children) is endowed with super powers as well, but they must not use them in public. His wife, Helen (Holly Hunter) is the super-stretchy Elastigirl; daughter Violet (Sarah Vowell) has the power of invisibility; little Dash can run like the wind; the powers for new baby Jack Jack have yet to be discovered. When an opportunity presents itself for Bob to resume work as a superhero, he cannot resist and decides to don his suit once again. Unknowingly, that decision puts himself, his family and the world in jeopardy.
My view: Writer/director Brad Bird of The Simpsons fame has brought us yet another great film by way of the marvelous crew at Pixar Animation Studios. Strikingly vivid imagery, a fresh and innovative story, and a great cast that is more fully developed than that of most live-action films highlight this fun animated gem. We all know by now that Pixar can do no wrong. This is most definitely right on par with its most recent releases, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. Pixar keeps breaking new ground with each film it releases, and this one is no different. Pixar truly struts its stuff by creating realistic human facial expressions and emotions for its first film that has animated humans as its main characters. The humor was smart and abundant, and the musical score was absolutely grooving. This is a most worthy film for all audiences except the youngest ones, who may grow antsy during its 115-minute run time. We definitely have another hit on our hands.
