TAMPA - Jim Guderian didn't hold back his feelings after Tampa Catholic released him this week as football coach. Then former TC coach Bob Henriquez, now an assistant at Jefferson, didn't mince words about how much he wanted to return to the Crusaders.
"I wanted out as bad as they wanted me out," Guderian said. "I went in and had a talk with the administration and that was that. I just haven't seen the commitment to improving what I felt we needed to do to succeed at Tampa Catholic. I feel they have a desire to get Bob Henriquez back here."
Said Henriquez: "If they want to talk to me, I would certainly listen. I have always bled green and white and if the commitment is there to regain the legacy we had there as players and coaches, I would certainly be interested in the job."
In four seasons, Guderian's teams went 7-32, including a 1-8 record this season.
Under Henriquez, a current state representative who led TC nine seasons, the Crusaders went 66-38, including two 10-win seasons. A year after Henriquez resigned, Bob Diehl took over but resigned midway through his first season with a 1-5 record. Guderian took over in 2001.
