The Filberts sounds like a new rock group or a group of nut aficionados, right? Nope, these Filberts are art students at the University of South Florida and have formed a club named after a kind of paint brush called a filbert. (Why I do not know.)
A silent auction of their work, including this painting by Thomas Whited, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Bleu Acier Studio and Gallery, 109 W Columbus Drive, Tampa. Part of the proceeds will be directed to education and outreach. Admission is $10 ($5 for students), which will be applied to purchases. Live music, light snacks and cash bar will be available. For information, call Blue Acier at (813) 272-9746.
So long a list, so little time
The Downtown Art Association Gallery Walk is always a fun, potentially fruitful event, but this time of year, chances are that you can cross a lot of names off your holiday list with gifts from local galleries, many of which gear their exhibitions to holiday shopping. The walk is Saturday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with free trolley service along the route.
