Far too many shows geared to children are mind-numbing for their parents, so it's nice to see two this week - Scholastic's The Magic School Bus Live and the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater - that have the potential to be just as entertaining for grown-ups as they are for tots.
The animated Magic School Bus series, which now airs on TLC, for years has been one of the most clever educational shows on TV geared to 6- to 9-year-olds. The stage version brings Ms. Frizzle, Liz and all the gang, plus the bus, to Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater at 11 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are $12. 727 791-7400 or www.rutheckerdhall.com
The Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater features Garbo (who used to play the dog Barkley on Sesame Street) and dancer Daielma Santos performing in and with helium-filled orbs of parachute cloth.
In 2002, during a run on Broadway, the New York Times called the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater "delightful. . . . The effect is like watching a live-action cartoon and occasionally being permitted to get in on the routine when those blobs float over the audience or reach out and snatch a shoe." The show is at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $6.50-$10.50. 813 229-7827 or www.tbpac.org
