PENSACOLA - Six blue jets brought some cheer Friday to a city where temporary blue roofs, gutted buildings and piles of debris are continuing reminders of Hurricane Ivan's destruction.
"This is a big thing," Diana Harley, 60, said of the Blue Angels' annual homecoming air show. "It's like we're going to be back again."
Officials at Pensacola Naval Air Station, where the precision flying team is headquartered, hope the two-day show, which continues today, will boost morale at the hard-hit base and among its neighbors.
"We felt that the community needed this," said Cmdr. Bo Stewart, the station's executive officer.
"We wanted to show people that we were pretty much back to normal, that we can do this kind of stuff," Capt. John Pruitt said.
