PHILADELPHIA - While Terrell Owens would never say he's sorry for his flashy celebrations, he did apologize Thursday to anyone offended by his role in a steamy segment with actor Nicollette Sheridan for the intro to Monday Night Football .
"I felt like it was clean, the organization felt like it was a clean skit and I think it just really got taken out of context with a lot of people and I apologize for that," Owens said. "Personally I didn't think it would have offended anyone and, if it did, I apologize."
ABC and the Eagles also apologized this week, with the team saying it wished the titillating segment "hadn't aired."
Owens, known for his outrageous touchdown celebrations, seemed to believe the skit was generating controversy because of his participation, not because of simulated nudity.
"Anything I get involved with, I'm obviously a target," he said.
This Monday's pregame skit will stick to football. The ABC promotion, scheduled to be taped today, will feature only Kansas City quarterback Trent Green and tight end Tony Gonzalez, Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said.
BROWNS: Tight end Chad Mustard joined an overflowing injured list by tearing a ligament in his left foot during practice.
COWBOYS: Drew Henson practiced as the first-team quarterback, although it was just as a fill-in for an ill Vinny Testaverde, who missed practice because of an undisclosed illness. He was listed as probable on the injury report, meaning the Cowboys still expect him to be the starter Sunday.
PANTHERS: Quarterback Jake Delhomme said he's encouraged about his chances of playing Sunday after throwing for the first time this week. Delhomme didn't take any snaps during practice and was held out of team drills, but did throw on the side for the first time since suffering a hairline fracture in his right thumb this past Sunday at San Francisco.
REDSKINS: Mark Brunell is 34 years old, has the worst stats in the league and has lost his job to a younger player two years in a row. Is retirement on the table? "No, I don't think so," he said. "I feel real good about how I can play. It hasn't worked out these first nine games, of course. But I still have a lot of confidence."
STEELERS: Running back Duce Staley missed practice again with a sore hamstring that has kept him out of two games, meaning he is unlikely to play in Cincinnati.
TITANS: Quarterback Steve McNair practiced for a second straight day, and said he feels good. Coach Jeff Fisher isn't ready to commit to McNair on Sunday against Jacksonville, calling him a game-time decision.
VIKINGS: Center Matt Birk is expected to start Sunday against the Lions despite pain in his abdomen. Birk sat out three weeks after undergoing surgery Aug.4 to repair a sports hernia. ... Receiver Randy Moss probably won't try to play through his injury and remained doubtful.
