SERIES HISTORY
The 49ers lead the all-time regular-season series 13-2.
LAST MEETING: San Francisco quarterback Jeff Garcia passes for a pair of touchdowns and the 49ers rushed for 212 yards in a 24-7 victory Oct. 19, 2003, at 3Com Park. The 49ers had 458 yards of offense, including 306 in the first half.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS: There haven't been many for Tampa Bay, but the Bucs have won the past two meetings in Tampa, including a 31-6 victory in the NFC divisional playoff game Jan. 12, 2003, the final game for Steve Mariucci as 49ers coach. He was fired three days later. The Bucs also won 13-6 in 1997. Their only other victory in the series was 24-23 in 1980.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
49ERS: Tight end Eric Johnson, who leads the NFC with 57 receptions, looks to be the third tight end in as many weeks to have a big game against the Bucs. Quarterback Tim Rattay has decent numbers in his first nine NFL starts - 204 of 321, 2,348 yards, 16 TDs, 10 INTs - but a 3-6 record.
BUCS: Linebacker Ian Gold was beaten twice last week on deep routes by Falcons TE Alge Crumpler. Maybe this week he'll get some help from the safeties. Receiver Michael Clayton has caught 10 passes of 20 or more yards this season, including three of 40 or more.
