BERKELEY, Calif. - J.J. Arrington ran for 169 yards to set California's single-season rushing record, and the Golden Bears beat Stanford 41-6 on Saturday for their biggest victory in the Big Game since 1930.
Freshman Marshawn Lynch added 122 yards on nine carries, including a spectacular 55-yard touchdown run. Lynch also threw a TD as the Bears totaled 474 yards in coach Jeff Tedford's third straight victory over Stanford in the 107th edition of the rivalry.
Aaron Rodgers passed for 120 yards and a score for the Bears, who kept their Bowl Championship Series hopes thriving with their sixth straight victory.
Despite the impressive score, it might have been Cal's ugliest win of the season. There was little offensive rhythm, and the teams combined for 26 penalties for 228 yards.
If Southern Cal wins its final two games and the Bears win their hurricane-postponed game at Southern Mississippi on Dec. 4, Cal will be the favorite for its first Rose Bowl trip in 45 years.
