MONTICELLO - A 6-month-old North Florida boy who was in a car when a thief stole it has been found unharmed in Tallahassee, about 25 miles from where the vehicle was taken, authorities said.
Ja-Marquez Izhaun Pringle was still in a car seat in the back of a 1998 green Ford Taurus when it was located at 8:50 a.m. by Leon County Sheriff's Office Deputy Elethia Chase.
The car was parked at a housing project in northwest Tallahassee, Lt. Silas Lewis said.
The 20-pound child was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered no ill effects from spending the night in the car, Lewis said.
Overnight temperatures dipped into the low 50s.
The child was returned to his parents, James and Rose Pringle of Monticello, east of Tallahassee in the Florida Panhandle.
The car was stolen at about 7 p.m. Wednesday after the baby's grandmother had stopped in a residential neighborhood to drop off another child. When she walked the other child up to the house, she turned around and the car was gone, police said.
An Amber Alert was issued about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday for the baby and missing car, officials said.
No arrests have been made in the theft of the car, Lewis said. He said the FDLE will investigate.
