For their own good Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.
Coach Jon Gruden on the 40-yard TD pass Panthers receiver Keary Colbert caught over cornerback Torrie Cox:
"We had a blitz called and obviously he was isolated one-on-one. It's a credit to Carolina not only for picking up the blitz, but Jake (Delhomme) made another awkward throw from an awkward position and Keary Colbert makes a great catch."

Gruden on why Cox was covering Colbert in that situation:
"We've got to see the kid; he played great last week. He's a young kid and it's good to test him. You can't test these guys in a garage; you can't test them on the practice field forever. Go out there and cover that guy in a two-minute drill in a big game."

Gruden on the 46-yard interception return by defensive end Julius Peppers:
"It was a heck of a play by that guy, that damn Peppers, he drives me crazy. He kept me up again late this week. It's a credit to Julius. ... It was a zone blitz. They brought the corner and the backer from the back side, we picked it up and I think he just shocked Brian (Griese). I don't think he expected Julius Peppers to be dropping. "

Punter Josh Bidwell on the high snap that might have contributed to Martin Gramatica's miss of a 37-yard field goal:
"I got it down, but I didn't catch it cleanly. I'm going to watch the film, but I know I double-clutched it. But when I put it down, I was able to get the laces out. But by that time the whole rhythm of the operation is off.

Defensive end Simeon Rice on losing to Carolina:
"This was a win-at-all-costs type game. We didn't do that. We were in position to basically just blow the candles out on this game. It was our game. But we didn't do the things we needed to do to really hammer the game home. Missing field goals and things to that extent. Especially for what's at stake, for what we're trying to play for? It just seems like a lack of motivation. It's a shame.

Rice on Gramatica's misses:
"I was hoping it would go through. I watched. But we had several situations that should've sealed this victory. But at this point, we've got to keep pushing forward and I've got to get politically correct, which I normally don't because I don't feel that's the right way. But in this circumstance, it's the only way because you have to stay motivated. Without motivation, death is imminent for this season."
PANTHERS QUOTEBOOK
Safety Mike Minter on the similarity of Sunday's game to last season's:
"Any time the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay get together, you better believe that it will go down to the last second. It's just a great testimony of both teams. They fight hard and both teams have great respect for one another."

Peppers on three straight wins:
"I think we're coming around as a football team. We've got guys stepping up for injured players and we're playing well in all three phases. Hopefully, we can continue the great play we've had the last couple of weeks and be around at the end of the season with a shot."

Receiver Muhsin Muhammad on the winning drive:
"The last couple of weeks, we have been practicing our two-minute drill. We knew that once Gramatica missed the field goal we had an opportunity to win the game. Jake huddled us up and we went out there and just made some plays. The receivers have been making plays all season and that is indicative of what we did last year."
