TAMPA - Tampa police say an 18-month-old boy was run over and killed Tuesday by his aunt, who backed out of a driveway without realizing her nephew had climbed under her SUV.
The family had just returned to the boy's home from a shopping trip about 4:40 p.m. when Arleine Philippe took her son, Bryan Lubin, out of her sister's vehicle, according to Tampa police.
She set him down on the grass near the driveway at 4812 River Bottom Court and then took her 9-year-old son out, police said. As she closed the passenger door, her sister, 30-year-old Arlinne Philippe, began to back out of the driveway. Neither sister knew that Bryan had crawled under the SUV.
Arlinne Philippe ran over him before the boy's mother could yell for her to stop, police said.
Tampa Fire Rescue responded and worked to save the toddler, who was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, police said. But he died on the way, shortly before 6 p.m.
No charges were filed Tuesday.
