The state Department of Transportation's proposed five-year work plan includes several Citrus County projects, many of them involving improvements along U.S. 19.
A DOT representative is scheduled to discuss the plan with the County Commission at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday during the commission's regularly scheduled meeting at the Citrus County Courthouse, 110 N Apopka Ave., Inverness.
Two days later, the DOT will hold a public hearing about the plan at 5:30 p.m. at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville.
The department will take the input it receives at those meetings, and from other sources, and use it when making the plan final.
Here's a breakdown of the U.S. 19 projects:
In 2005-06, the state plans to spend $4.4-million on engineering work for the stretch of highway between W Jump Court in Homosassa to the south and Fort Island Trail in Crystal River to the north.
In 2007-08, the state proposes spending $2.4-million acquiring right of way along that same stretch.
The DOT eventually plans to widen that part of U.S. 19 from four to six lanes.
In 2006-07, the state plans to spend $5-million resurfacing the highway between Yulee Drive in Homosassa to the south and Fort Island Trail.
In 2007-08, the state proposes spending $5.1-million to acquire right of way and work on environmental mitigation for the stretch between Green Acres Street to the south and Jump Court to the north. The state eventually plans to add more lanes.
In 2008-09, the state wants to spend $2.4-million on "corridor improvement" between Fort Island Trail and NE First Terrace, Crystal River.
In 2009-10, the state hopes to spend $2.1-million on engineering work for a new U.S. 19 bridge over the Cross Florida Barge Canal.
Here's a look at some other projects:
Gospel Island bridge: About $2.1-million is scheduled for replacement of the Gospel Island Road bridge over Lake Henderson. Construction would be in 2005-06.
State Road 44 W: The plan would set aside $2.5-million to resurface SR 44 between 10th Avenue and just east of County Road 486.
State Road 200: The state plans to widen the road between U.S. 41 N and E Millwood Lane in Hernando. The plan would set aside $441,500 for environmental mitigation in 2006-07. No construction money has been designated.
CR 486: The county is widening the road, but the state has plans to landscape the median. The plan would set aside $236,000 in 2007-08 for construction.
