2004 All-Pinellas County football team

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: TERRELL SKINNER (6-3, 190), Sr., Boca Ciega.

COACH OF THE YEAR: GEORGE PALMER, Osceola (7-3).

FIRST TEAM OFFENSE

QB - HARRISON BECK: 6-2, 205, Sr., Countryside: The Cougars' all-time passing record holder was 118-of-183 for 1,783 yards, nine TDs and seven INTs; completed 64 percent of his passes and also ran for 163 yards and a score.

RB - MYRON DILLARD: 5-10, 165, Sr., Boca Ciega: Little known back was well-known after leading the way to a district title with 150 carries for 1,173 yards and 10 scores, including a 200-yard performance in the playoffs.

RB- JASON HARRIS: 6-0, 200, Sr., Clearwater: Broke through for first 1,000-yard season, gaining 1,147 yards and scoring 15 times; also returned a punt for a TD and was a standout LB for Tornadoes.

RB - JOCK SANDERS: 5-9, 165, So., St. Petersburg Catholic: What didn't he do in 2004? He ran 91 times for 1,087 yards and 10 TDs, had 36 catches for 358 yards and a score, threw for 315 yards and three TDs; had three pickoffs and ran a kickoff 91 yards for a TD.

WR - RILEY COOPER: 6-4, 192, Jr., CCC: The football equivalent of a five-tool player; had 32 receptions for 874 yards and 10 TDs, was second on team with 118 tackles, had five INTs and 13 pass deflections, averaged 40 yards a punt, 23.2 per kickoff return and 23.7 per punt return.

WR - MIKE JAMES: 6-1, 175, Sr., Countryside: Tough to bring down, "King James" caught everything that came his way; grabbed 64 passes for 1,065 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 16.6 yards a catch.

TE - COLIN McCARTHY: 6-3, 215, Sr., Clearwater Central Catholic: Two-way star had 32 catches for 595 yards and seven TDs, had 163 tackles, 13 for a loss, five INTs, two sacks, two forced and three recovered fumbles and blocked an extra point.

OL - JAMES BOGER: 6-4, 295, Sr., Dixie Hollins: The Rebels epitomized ball control and ran behind their right tackle to return to the playoffs; he led the way to 3,000 yards.

OL - TERRY COSTON: 6-2, 280, Sr., Boca Ciega: A Pinellas Classic all-star game standout, Coston's stock has risen as the key blocker for an offense that put up more than 3,600 yards and 31.5 points a game this season.

OL - WESLEY HOUSTON: 6-5, 272, Sr., Largo: Left tackle graded out at 92 percent and opened holes for playmaker Dexter McCluster; the two-year starter didn't give up a sack this year.

OL - DAVID LATU: 6-5, 315, Sr., Gibbs: One of the biggest linemen around was a big, big part of the Gladiator scoring machine, paving the way for 4,500 yards and 53 TDs.

OL - A.J. TRUMP: 6-5, 280, Sr., Clearwater Central Catholic: Miami wanted him for his size-speed combination; he graded out as a 90 percent blocker and had 81 tackles, 19 for a loss, six sacks and 24 QB pressures on defense.

UT - THEO WILSON: 5-11, 180, Sr., Dunedin: The Falcons struggled but their QB still soared, passing for 1,434 yards and 16 TDs and running for 783 yards and 10 TDs; he averaged 8.9 yards per touch.

PK - KYLE CHILTON: 6-0, 140, Sr., Clearwater: Big leg drew oohs and ahhs; he hit 5-of-9 field goals, including a 49- and 50-yarder, 23-of-25 extra points and sent 42-of-45 kickoffs into the end zone.

FIRST TEAM DEFENSE

DL - ALEX COOK: 6-3, 191, Sr., Osceola: The master of the forced fumble separated eight ballcarriers from the ball and recovered four; the unanimous South all-star also had 18 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks and blocked two punts.

DL - TED LARSEN: 6-3, 255, Sr., Palm Harbor University: The 'Canes best player is Division I-A ready and a load on defense with 30 tackles, 19 assists and 12 tackles for a loss; also did spot duty on offense.

DL - DAN PUCKETT: 6-0, 210, Sr., Dixie Hollins: Former LB moved to NG this season where he had 58 tackles, 15 for a loss and two sacks; at FB he also ran for 758 yards and nine TDs to help end the Rebels' seven-year playoff drought.

DL - JOEY YANCHUNIS: 6-1, 200, Sr., St. Petersburg Catholic: Was credited with 36 sacks this year, six in one game, and that's not a misprint; speedy end had 105 tackles, an interception and ran a fumble back for a TD.

LB - JOE GAMBLE: 5-8, 175, Sr., Northeast: A three-year, two-way starter who has gone from NG to LB to FB. A team leader, he carried the Vikings with 800 bruising yards and eight touchdowns.

LB - JOSH NEWSOME: 5-10, 177, Sr., Osceola: The three-year starter led the overacheiving Warriors in tackles, had four fumble recoveries, returned an INT for a score and keyed the county's top scoring defense (9.4 points allowed in 10 games.)

LB - CARL TEAGUE: 6-2, 215, Sr., St. Petersburg Catholic: Delivered punishment on both sides of the ball; had 87 tackles, 41 assists, 10 sacks, and an interception plus 571 rushing yards and 13 TDs. Had a touchdown in all of SPC's games.

LB - DUSTIN ZITZMANN: 5-11, 190, Jr., Dixie Hollins: Despite playing with a broken thumb much of the season, was the Rebels' best defender with 111 tackles, 15 for a loss, four sacks and an interception.

DB - RASHAD ETHERIDGE: 5-9, 170, Sr., St. Petersburg Catholic: Had 96 total tackles, six INTs, six sacks, 439 rushing yards and four TDs, 100 receiving yards and a 65-yard punt return for a score.

DB - CHRIS HARRIEL: 6-1, 215, Sr., Countryside: Coach John Davis called him the Cougars' "best player," after 87 total tackles, 16 pass break-ups, three forced fumbles, one recovery, two picks and a sack.

DB - DEXTER McCLUSTER: 5-9, 150, Jr., Largo: Perhaps the most dangerous player in the county with 1,252 yards rushing, 200 receiving and 14 TDs, 43 tackles, four pass deflections and two INTs. The special teams wiz also averaged 42 yards a kickoff returns, 32 on punts.

DB - ANTHONY O'BANNER: 5-7, 175, Sr., Dixie Hollins: Big play defender roamed the secondary for 46 tackles, eight for a loss, two blocked kicks and one interception.

UT - COLBY ERSKIN: 5-9, 165, Sr., Seminole: He was the team's leading rusher and reciever, with 878 combined yards and nine TDs. He averaged 21.9 yards a catch and 8.2 a carry; he also had 81 tackles, six blocked kicks and three INTs.

P - JACOB STEIN: 5-11, 160, Jr., Shorecrest: 1,439 rushing yards and 17 TDs; two KO returns for TDs; 153 tackles, four INTs; 128 points (he also kicks), and a 42.7 yard per punt average. Whew.
