| Devil Rays shortstop Julio Lugo lets Jerry Hairston's grounder get under his glove for a run-scoring single in the second inning of the nightcap. Lugo also committed his 13th error of the season in the first, allowing Miguel Tejada to score as the Orioles took a quick 3-0 lead. |
A double dose of misery
ORIOLES 4-8, RAYS 2-2: Tampa Bay dips below .500 in an ugly sweep but insists it's just a blip.

Lou sees room for more Rays All-Stars
BALTIMORE - Lou Piniella didn't want to sound like he was complaining. But after taking a look at the complete All-Star rosters Monday, he had to wonder if more Devil Rays weren't named to the team simply because they were Devil Rays.

D'backs end Gagne's save streak
LOS ANGELES - Eric Gagne's streak of 84 saves ended against the same team he couldn't hold off two years ago: the Diamondbacks.

Rangers' Rogers rolls to win No. 12
CLEVELAND - Kenny Rogers became baseball's first 12-game winner and the Rangers roughed up All-Star C.C. Sabathia in an 8-5 victory over the Indians on Monday night.
All-Star bonuses
All-Star start worth $50,000 to Schilling
NEW YORK - For Curt Schilling, starting next week's All-Star Game would be a bonus. A $50,000 bonus.
Cycling
Cobblestones add bumpy test
NAMUR, Belgium - Lance Armstrong has no doubts about the risks that lurk in the next stage of the Tour de France: If luck goes against him, he says, his drive for a record sixth straight win could be over almost before it's begun.
Tour de France glance
STAGE 2: A relatively flat, 122-mile stage from Charleroi, Belgium, to Namur along dry roads and under cloud patches that produced no rain.

Motorsports
Several in chase to be perfect 10th
DAYTONA BEACH - Nine races remain before the cutoff for Nextel Cup's "Chase for the Championship," and only a handful of drivers not among the top 10 in the point standings are capable of making a late push to qualify for the season-ending 10-race showdown.

Outdoors
Daily fishing report
Fishing this time of year can be hot and heaven. But don't overlook the weather. The normal summer pattern is calm in the morning and stormy in the afternoon. On a recent charter we ran into the opposite: morning storms gave way to a midday break, only to be followed by severe afternoon storms. With safety a priority, we ran back to the marina to wait for the storms to pass. Be prepared for sudden weather changes. Watch and listen for for the slightest hint of an approaching storm.

Bullets get a shot at PONY Nationals
A third-place finish in last weekend's Pines 'N Palms tournament at Disney World was nice. Winning the Polk County Shootout in May was cool, too.

His biological father is in prison, but Jimmy Baxter has chosen a different path for his own life. The former USF basketball player never gets into trouble. He is a loving husband and father. And he puts himself in position to make it into the olympics in the high jump.
