Girl watching
Britney and Christina are sagging a bit, so it's time for a fresh crop of sweet tarts. Which is the best bet to be around 10 years from now, or even pull a Cher?

Gallery walk
The St. Petersburg Downtown Arts Association's monthly gallery walk happens Saturday. It's free, and all venues will be open from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Hot ticket: Art shines indoors
Rain and heat may force some plans to change, but the Clearwater Fine Arts Festival, debuting on Saturday and continuing through Sunday, will be impervious to weather. Held in the air-conditioned comfort of Harborview Center, 300 Cleveland St., Clearwater, the new festival will feature about 75 artists, including Margo Annis, whose fiber and gourd vase is shown above left, and John Thursby, whose painting is above right. Hours each day are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the event is free. For more information, call organizer Bill Scott, (727) 556-0550.

Film
Also in theaters: Fairy dust and a crowning touch
Fairy-tale dreams come true in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (G), but getting there is not nearly as much fun as it was in the 2001 original.
Also opening: It's game on for 'Alien Vs. Predator'
More than four years ago, enterprising video game designers created a dream pairing for joystick jockeys, pitting creatures from the Alien films and two Predator flicks in a death struggle. Several sequels later, the Alien Vs. Predator series became so popular that a movie version was inevitable. Now it's here, although Twentieth Century Fox wouldn't allow advance screenings for critics' reviews. Go figure.

1. The Manchurian Candidate - Denzel Washington stars in a gripping overhaul of the classic 1962 political thriller. New, improved in some regards, and definitely worth seeing.

A fraternity of fetters
Carandiru, a Brazilian film based on a true story, tells the story of prisoners linked by inevitability to a bloody uprising behind bars.
Get away
Being Barbra
For former St. Petersburg resident Sharon Owens, a resemblance in face and voice to the legendary Barbra Streisand has been worth more than 15 minutes of fame.

A Night in the Tropics - (Aug. 20) 5-11 p.m., downtown New Port Richey.
Inside information
A cool way to peek in on nature
St. Petersburg's Boyd Hill Nature Park is always an oasis from the city, but it's especially captivating at night. Once a month, rangers lead hikers through the park after dark to see the animals in their nocturnal state. The hikers carry flashlights covered with red cellophane to make the light less obtrusive for the creatures.
