Deputies seek suspect in fatal hit-and-run

TAMPA - The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office seeks help in finding the driver thought to be involved in a Christmas hit-and-run that killed a Balm resident.

The Sheriff's Office on Friday issued an arrest warrant for Leonardo Vasquez of Wimauma. Vasquez, 34, was earlier identified as the owner of the red 1993 Honda thought to be involved in the accident at West Lake Road and State Road 674. Gustavo Marquez, 24, was walking east across West Lake when a driver heading north on West Lake hit him.

Investigators say they think the Honda is the same car involved in a nearby accident the next day. The driver crashed into a fence at Newmauma Park Drive and Proverbs Way, but fled before deputies arrived.

Anyone with information about Vasquez's whereabouts may call the Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
