Bailey scores TD; Florida wins with last stand

MIAMI - Defensive end Ricky Jean-Francois stopped Sargeant on a 2-point conversion with no time on the clock to seal Florida's 24-22 win over California in the CaliFlorida Bowl late Sunday at the Orange Bowl.

Mark Sanchez hit Lydell Sargeant on a 7-yard touchdown for California as time expired to set up the conversion in the sixth annual high school all-star game.

Kalvin Bailey of Armwood, the Times' All-Suncoast Player of the Year who has orally committed to Iowa, scored Florida's first touchdown on a 2-yard run.

Antone Smith of Pahokee was named the MVP. He broke six tackles on an 18-yard touchdown run that gave Florida a 14-7 lead with 9:10 left in the first half.

Smith, who has not committed to a college, gained 43 yards rushing on 12 attempts.

Sanchez, of Mission Viejo, passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns but also had two interceptions. He has committed to Southern Cal.

Demetrice Morley of Miami Killian High returned the opening kickoff of the second half 86 yards for a Florida touchdown. Morley has committed to Tennessee.
