Man gets 4 years in prison for drugs, woman's death

NEW PORT RICHEY - A 31-year-old man who pleaded no contest last month to manslaughter/culpable negligence and heroin possession was sentenced Thursday.

Circuit Judge Michael Andrews sentenced Richard Anthony Demartino to four years in prison. Demartino also will have to serve five years of drug offender probation.

Authorities found Demartino culpably negligent in the death of 19-year-old Jennifer Amy Fallon, who was killed in a Feb. 15, 2002, car accident. Court records show the Spring Hill man had drugs in his system at the time of the crash. He was behind the wheel the night his car skidded across Shady Hills Road, crashed through a fence and hit a tree. Fallon, his passenger, died at the scene.
