ATLANTA - Will Bynum scored 21 to ease B.J. Elder's absence, and No.9 Georgia Tech ruined Miami's Atlantic Coast Conference debut with an 80-69 victory Thursday night.

The Yellow Jackets built a 14-point halftime lead and held off Miami's surge in the first five minutes of the second half.

Georgia Tech bounced back from an overtime loss at No.2 Kansas, also getting 15 points from Luke Schenscher.

The Hurricanes moved from the Big East this season, a football power that hopes to make a mark in a league known for basketball. They went in with an eight-game winning streak but couldn't keep it going.
