Robber of St. Petersburg downtown bank still at large

ST. PETERSBURG - A man robbed the United Bank at 333 Third Ave. N in downtown St. Petersburg on Monday morning, police said. No one was hurt.
The man, who wore sunglasses and a red ball cap, handed the teller a note about 9:50 a.m., police spokesman George Kajtsa said. The man had a semiautomatic handgun, and fled after taking an undisclosed amount of money.
Police said the robber was described as black, about 6 feet 2, weighing 190 pounds and in his 30s. Anyone with information can call police at (727) 893-7179 or (727) 893-7780.
Police still not certain on ID of intruder killed at gem show
ST. PETERSBURG - Police said Monday they still do not know the identity of a robber shot to death when he broke into a jewelry show at the Coliseum on Sunday.
A security guard killed the man when he and another person pried opened the back door of the Coliseum about 2:30 a.m.. The guard fired several shots at the intruders, who were wearing ski masks.
Police spokesman George Kajtsa said detectives were still verifying the name of the man who died at Bayfront Medical Center. Police described him only as a 31-year-old Hispanic male from outside the Tampa Bay area. Police are still searching for the second robber, who fled the scene.
Police also did not release the name of the security guard, citing an ongoing investigation.
The guard with S & S Security was protecting gems, jewelry, silver and porcelain kept overnight by about 100 vendors for the show at the Coliseum in downtown St. Petersburg.
Gov. Bush appoints educator, lawyer to Board of Education
Gov. Jeb Bush has appointed a retired Okeechobee County educator and a Miami lawyer to three-year terms on the state Board of Education.
Phoebe Raulerson was employed by the Okeechobee County School Board for more than 40 years, serving as a teacher, principal and superintendent before retiring last year. Roberto Martinez, a former U.S. attorney for Florida's southern district, is a shareholder at the Colson Hicks Eidson law firm and chairs the Miami-Dade College board of trustees.
The pair are replacing Charles Garcia and Linda Eads, whose terms ended.
Jacksonville hosts president's first Florida visit of 2005
President Bush will visit Jacksonville on Friday to discuss job training and higher education.
He will speak Friday afternoon at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. This will be Bush's first visit to Florida this year and his 35th since taking office.
