INVERNESS - A man was arrested pending a sexual battery charge after telling to sheriff's detectives that he molested a young girl.

James N. Cook, 25, 1605 N Point Lonesome Road, was arrested after being interviewed by detectives who were following up on a Department of Children and Families investigation. The arrest report said Cook told a sheriff's detective during an interview Monday that he molested a 3-year-old girl Dec. 30. The incident occurred in the girl's home while her mother was not there. The 21-year-old mother was arrested and accused of leaving her two young girls alone for several hours while she went on a drinking spree and passed out at another house. Cook is being held without bail at the county jail.
