LAKE WALES - An eighth-grader waiting for his school bus was killed Wednesday when the driver of a pickup accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake, jumped a curb and hit the boy.
Keith Kenny, 15, died at a hospital, Lake Wales police said.
Police said Keith and about 10 other McLaughlin Middle School students were waiting at a bus stop along U.S. 27 about 7:50 a.m. Dora Cristina Gallegos' truck was pulling into a parking space when it lurched forward, over a curb and onto the sidewalk where Keith was sitting. The youth fell under the truck and was dragged about 60 feet.
