TAMPA - A Largo man was arrested Thursday, accused of using a blowtorch to rob a laundry room vending machine.

Charles Carbonaro, 21, of Largo faces charges of felony criminal mischief and grand theft, Tampa police said Thursday.

Detectives had been investigating numerous thefts from laundry room vending machines in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties between last May and July, police said.

One was at Westminster Chase Apartments, 6910 Interbay Blvd., where $3,000 of damage was done to the laundry vending machine when robbers used a blowtorch to force it open and steal money, police said. Carbonaro lived at the complex at the time, they said.

Carbonaro was being held Thursday at the Hillsborough County jail on unrelated burglary charges.
