By Times Staff Writer
Published January 15, 2005

Sen. Les Miller, D-Tampa, is recovering after successful surgery to remove a cancerous growth from his left kidney, his office announced Friday.

Miller, the Senate Democratic leader, was diagnosed with kidney cancer last month. He underwent the procedure at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.

His doctors said Friday the cancer was caught early, and they anticipate he won't need chemotherapy or radiation.
