ST. PETERSBURG - Smoothie King opened last week at 6331 Fourth St. N.
Natalie Brazzell of St. Petersburg is the proprietor. If this shop succeeds, she plans to open five more in the next five years.
Brazzell said she started drinking Smoothie King products while attending the University of Central Florida in Orlando and wanted to bring the brand to St. Petersburg. The chain sells drinks made with fresh fruits and juices and specialty blends and bills them as an alternative to fast food.
Smoothie King started in 1973 and now has 360 stores in 34 states with six international locations.
St. Pete Pride seeks promotional artwork
ST. PETERSBURG - Artists who want to see their work on materials used in the 2005 St. Pete Pride celebration will be judged March 13 at an outdoor celebration at 3170 Third Ave. N.
The juried show will award a $1,000 first prize. The deadline for applications is Feb. 15. Artists will be judged on how well they incorporate this year's Pride theme into their work. The theme is "Pride in Motion: Our Resolve Strengthens."
The annual St. Pete Pride celebration features a promenade and street festival on Saturday, June 25. Many of the organization's members are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered. They promote the city of St. Petersburg as one of the more diverse cities in the United States, said Greg Stemm, co-chair of St. Pete Pride. Last year the celebration drew 20,000 people.
The winner of the art contest will see his or her work used in promotional materials for the June celebration as well as on merchandise and in programs for the event.
Those interested should check Pride's Web site: www.stpetepride.com or call Dan Fiorini at Fiorini Gallery at 727 327-9000 or Lisa Lippincott at Soda Graphics at (727) 323-3173.
