Garden club to host bonsai presentation today

BELLEAIR BEACH - The Belleair Beach Island Garden Club will feature a bonsai presentation at 10 a.m. today at Belleair Beach City Hall, 444 Causeway Blvd. Attendees should bring a dish to share for lunch, as well as a plant, fresh fruit or vegetables for the share table. The 2005 Collecto-Rama, A Vintage Venue Antiques & Collectibles Show, is scheduled for Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gulfport Casino ballroom, 5500 Shore Blvd. The event will feature vintage dealers of retro furniture and decor, art, paintings, old Florida souvenirs and memorabilia, movie posters, license plates, garden items, linens, old advertising, postcards, tin toys, and kitchen small appliances. Madeira Beach

Gulf Beaches Public Library will host Jon Michael Miller, a Florida author, for a discussion and book signing Thursday at 7 p.m. Miller's novel, Jamaica Girl, is about an impoverished, uneducated teenager in the hills of the island's west coast. The Gulf Beaches Public Library book discussion group meets the third Tuesday of the month. The library is at 200 Municipal Drive. For information, call 391-2828.

The Madeira Beach Seniors Club meets the first Monday of the month at 1 p.m. at Madeira Beach City Hall Auditorium. Indian Rocks Beach

The St. Pete Beach Recreation Department offers Yang style Tai Chi classes. The classes will be a the city's gymnasium, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, beginning Feb. 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. Instructor Peter Hilley has studied this form since 1984. The 64 movement set will be taught to students progressively. Students should wear loose clothing and flat canvass footwear. Cost is $10 per session. The First Annual Touch a Truck event, sponsored by the

The St. Pete Beach Recreation Department will host "Touch a Truck" Saturday at the gym parking lot, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, from 9 to 11 am. The free event allows children of all ages to explore their favorite utility vehicles such as fire trucks, E.M.S. trucks, tractor, bus, bucket truck, limos and more. Children are invited to climb aboard and touch any of the participating vehicles. Refreshments will be available. For information, call Mary-Jo Golliner at 363-9244.

The Celestial Viewings & Saturday Stroll on Cool Classic Corey Avenue is scheduled for Feb. 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m., members of the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club will share their telescopes and knowledge of the skies for celestial viewings, including Saturn, seen at its closest point to the Earth, and the comet Macholz. Music for the evening will be provided in both the 300 and 400 block of Corey Avenue, and will feature island-style acoustic tunes, including the original music of Pete Merrigan.
