Contestants sought for vocal competition

SEMINOLE - "Seminole Sings," a vocal competition co-sponsored by the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, St. Petersburg College and William Clare Entertainment, is open to singers between the ages 15 and 25.
The competition offers prizes during preliminary events, with the overall winner receiving a grand prize package that includes a photo shoot, recording session and a night on the town complete with dinner and limousine service.
Twenty singers will be selected to compete in each preliminary contest staged at various locations throughout the city. The winners will move on. Those contests will be Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22 and March 1.
Semifinals, featuring the top four singers from each of the preliminaries, are set for March 11 at the Seminole Pow Wow Festival. The final competition is planned for March 12 at the St. Petersburg College Digitorium.
Proceeds from the competition will benefit the Seminole Chamber Education Foundation. For information, call William Clare Entertainment at 397-6007.
The Seminole Historical Society will host its first public meeting at 7:30 tonight in the music room of the Seminole Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N.
Seminole area residents are invited to attend this organizational meeting. Society members are seeking to find a permanent place for documents, photographs and mementos illustrating the community's history. Membership fees are $10 for families, $25 for businesses and $15 for community groups. Church memberships are free.
"Fit over Fifty," a health and wellness expo, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 27. The event will include personal health and wellness seminars, financial and estate planning seminars, product information from vendors, free health screenings and a healthy snack exhibit.
The Florida Blood Services Blood Mobile will be on site during the expo.
The Wellington School lower division for kindergarten through third grade will host an open house at its Seminole campus, 8000 Starkey Road, at 7 p.m. Feb. 8. For information, call 397-4565, Seminole.
