TAMPA - A man pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the slaying of Vanderbilt University football star Kwane Doster.

Rodney "Roscoe" Roman, 28, is being held without bail on a first-degree murder charge in Doster's Dec. 26 death and on two counts of attempted murder.

Roman has said he was elsewhere when the 21-year-old running back was shot in the parking lot of a sandwich shop after a night out at a club with two friends.

Police said the shooting occurred after Doster's group and another group of men exchanged "trash talk" about their cars while leaving the club.

Roman's mother owns an Infiniti sedan that matched a description of the car carrying the gunman. Doster's friends have identified Roman as the one who fired at them, court documents said.
