DOG BEAT DOG COMPETITION
For those who didn't get enough of the dog show scene last weekend: About 2,000 dogs from around the country will converge on Brooksville today through Sunday for the AKC-sanctioned Florida Classic Cluster II Dog Show. The conformation and obedience competitions are outdoors at Florida Classic Park. Go 1 mile west of Interstate 75 exit 301, then south on Lockhart Road and follow the signs. GASPARILLA FOR THE YOUNG SET
Gasparilla begins Saturday for little pirates and those who don't like the raucous nature of the big Gasparilla celebration, coming next week. The alcohol-free Gasparilla Children's Parade, plus other kid-friendly activities, fill Tampa's Bayshore Boulevard between Bay to Bay and Rome from noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with the parade at 4:30. Then, the fireworks extravaganza begins at 7 p.m. Bayshore Boulevard between Rome and Bay to Bay will be wired to broadcast the fireworks soundtrack; others can listen to the music that goes with the pyrotechnics on WMTX-FM 100.7. METAL MONSTERS GEAR UP
It's a Tampa tradition. Every January, the Superbowl of Motor Sports invades Raymond James Stadium with monster trucks for an evening of metal-crushing mania. The engines start revving at 7:30 Saturday night. Tickets are $14, but beware: The event usually sells out. (813) 673-4300.
HOW TO CULTIVATE YOUR GARDEN
Tropicana Field will be filled with floral fantasies today and Saturday during the Tampa Bay Flower Show. Besides elaborate flora, the show features celebrity gardeners and horticulturists, including some who create the lovely landscapes at Walt Disney World, Busch Gardens and Sunken Gardens. The show, which began Thursday, continues from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Tropicana Field, 16th Street and First Avenue S, St. Petersburg. $10, $6 kids ages 6 to 12. 727 596-1204; www.flowershow.com
FLORIDA ORCHESTRA "RACHS' ON
The Florida Orchestra wraps up its Rachmaninoff festival with Kirill Gerstein as the soloist in the Piano Concerto No. 3.
