Teacher's hit-and-run case rescheduled for Oct. 31

TAMPA - The trial of Jennifer Porter, the suspended Muller Elementary schoolteacher accused of leaving the scene of an accident that killed two children, has been postponed until Oct. 31. Hillsborough Circuit Judge Anthony Black agreed Thursday to reschedule the trial, which had been set for April, after defense attorney Barry Cohen asked for more time to prepare. Prosecutor Kim Seace did not oppose the request.

The case stems from the March 31 car crash that killed Bryant Wilkins, 13, and his 3-year-old brother, Durontae Caldwell, as they tried to cross N 22nd Street. Two other siblings were injured. Porter, of Land O'Lakes, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death, which could bring a 15-year prison term.
