TUESDAY: The National Association of Realtors reports on existing home sales for December; the Conference Board reports its monthly Consumer Confidence Index.

WEDNESDAY: Certegy Inc., Gannett Co. and Knight-Ridder are among companies releasing earnings; the World Economic Forum opens its annual five-day conference in Switzerland.

THURSDAY: Florida Venture Forum begins in Orlando; Nicholas Financial, Media General, Dow Jones & Co., Microsoft Corp., UAL Corp., Verizon Communications Inc. and Franklin Resources report earnings; the Commerce Department reports on durable goods orders for December.

FRIDAY: The Commerce Department reports on gross domestic product, fourth quarter, advance; the Labor Department reports on employment cost index, fourth quarter; Procter & Gamble Co., Honeywell International and McDonald's Corp. are among those releasing earnings.
