PLANT CITY - Two men died late Saturday after their sports car flipped and hit a utility pole, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

The 24-year-old driver and his 20-year-old passenger, whose names deputies did not release, died at the scene.

The men had been traveling on Trapnell Road, near State Road 39, in a 1998 Corvette about 11:45 p.m. when the driver lost control, deputies said. The Corvette left the road, hit a mailbox then spun around before hitting the utility pole, deputies said.

The driver was ejected and his passenger was trapped inside the car. Deputies said the men weren't wearing seat belts.
