LECANTO - Second seed Lecanto was upset in overtime and Central won 5-1 Monday night in the first round of the Class 4A, District 9 girls soccer tournament.

Clermont South Lake's Dani Contini blasted a shot past Lecanto goalkeeper Sam King to give the Eagles (6-16-4) a 4-3 edge in penalty kicks over Lecanto (17-3-1) after the game was scoreless through 80 minutes of regulation and 20 of overtime.

Lecanto was shut out despite 33 shots on goal in regulation and overtime. South Lake, the seventh seed, had 11 shots.

Maggie Mueller, Natalie Burnett and Jen Worthington scored the penalty kick goals for Lecanto.

"I don't think the better team won tonight," said Lecanto coach Kevin Towne.

South Lake faces Central (15-5-3) Wednesday night.

Central's Kim Brown scored two goals and added an assist as the Bears downed Leesburg (9-13-3).

Central was the No.3 seed and Leesburg No.6.

"It might have reflected and I just swung around and kicked it with my left foot," Brown said of the first goal."

Central downed the defending district champions.

"I'm happy we beat this team," Brown said. "We played well. We are used to playing in it now."
