Stabbing ex-wife earns man 15 years

LARGO - A man charged with attempted murder in the 2003 stabbing of his ex-wife has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Odell Carl Parker, 59, pleaded no contest Tuesday to the charge. Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Brandt Downey sentenced Parker to 15 years in prison and ordered him to have no future contact with his ex-wife or her family, court records show. Parker received credit for time he has already served in jail since his December 2003 arrest. Under state sentencing guidelines, he will be eligible for release in just under 12 years, when he will be about 70. Largo police arrested Parker after he stabbed his ex-wife three times. She was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center and survived her wounds. Parker also had been arrested on domestic battery charges in 1988 and 1995, court records show. Prosecutors did not pursue the charges in either of those cases.
