Men: Terps pull away, drop Duke from unbeatens

DURHAM, N.C. - For once, Duke ran out of magic, leaving two unbeaten teams in Division I.
Nik Caner-Medley had 25 points before leaving with an ankle injury, and his Maryland teammates finished off the No. 2 Blue Devils at the free-throw line in a 75-66 victory Wednesday night.
The Terrapins had lost three of five, all by at least 15. But they hung with Duke throughout and completed the improbable victory by allowing two points in the final 31/2 minutes.
Ekene Ibekwe gave Maryland the lead for good with a tough layup in traffic off an inbounds play, set up during a timeout by coach Gary Williams. That made it 66-64 with 1:23 left.
Travis Garrison was 5-of-6 at the line in the final minute, and Ibekwe was 4-for-4 as Duke left No. 1 Illinois and No. 8 Boston College as the last unbeatens.
UM 69, CLEMSON 65: Robert Hite scored 21 and Gary Hamilton hit two free throws with five seconds left to lead the host Hurricanes.
NO. 14 ALABAMA 60, AUBURN 55: Earnest Shelton scored 22 and made five late 3s to lead the visiting Crimson Tide. The Tigers cut Alabama's 15-point lead to one in the second half. But Chuck Davis hit two free throws and drove for a basket to help secure Alabama's fourth straight win over its archrival.
LSU 70, OLE MISS 60: Brandon Bass had 14 points, eight in the final 3:40, 11 rebounds and five blocks for the host Tigers.
S. CAROLINA 68, VANDY 63: Renaldo Balkman scored 15, five during a 16-0 second-half run, as the host Gamecocks rallied.
C-USANO. 12 LOUISVILLE 99, MARQUETTE 52: Larry O'Bannon made six 3-pointers and scored 30, both career highs, as the host Cardinals handed the Golden Eagles their most lopsided loss.
ECU 60, SAINT LOUIS 53: Corey Rouse had 13 points and 13 rebounds as the host Pirates snapped a six-game skid.
CHARLOTTE 94, TCU 87: Eddie Basden scored 22 and the host 49ers made 7 of 9 free throws in the final minute.
TULANE 63, HOUSTON 61: Taylor Rochestie hit a jumper with 2.1 seconds left to lift the visiting Green Wave.
Top 25NO. 8 BC 78, PROVIDENCE 75: Jared Dudley scored 21 and hit a 3-pointer with 1:20 left to give the visiting Eagles the lead. Boston College (17-0, 6-0 Big East) is off to the best start in school history overall and in conference play.
N'WESTERN 75, NO. 23 IOWA 74 (OT): Michael Jenkins' 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer hit the rim, bounced high and fell through to give the host Wildcats a stunning victory. Vedran Vukusic, who scored a career-high 32 for Northwestern, forced overtime when he hit three free throws with 13.8 seconds left.
StateJU 70, STETSON 58: Antonio Cool scored 16 to lead the visiting Dolphins to their fifth win in six games.
SAINT LEO 70, FLA. SOUTHERN 65: Marquis McCullough had 19 points to help rally the host Lions.
NationVILLANOVA 65, NOTRE DAME 60: Allan Ray scored 23 to lead the Wildcats to a comeback win at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.
WIS.-MILWAUKEE 73, PURDUE 68: Ed McCants scored 11 of his 15 in the second half to lead the visiting Panthers to their eighth win in a row.
OHIO ST. 68, PENN ST. 62: Brandon Fuss-Cheatham more than doubled his average with 15 points to help the Buckeyes hand the Nittany Lions their 27th consecutive Big Ten road loss.
MINNESOTA 70, INDIANA 65: Jeff Hagen had 15 points and eight rebounds as the host Gophers won for the 12th time in 14 games.
COLORADO 64, MISSOURI 62: Freshman Richard Roby sank a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to lift the host Buffaloes.
KANSAS ST. 63, IOWA ST. 51: Jeremiah Massey scored 19 of his 23 in the second half for the host Wildcats.
NEBRASKA 77, TEXAS A&M 67: Jake Muhleisen scored a season-high 25 and the host Cornhuskers outscored the Aggies by 18 from the free-throw line.
SAN DIEGO ST.: Guard Travis Hanour will miss the rest of the season because of knee injuries.
