Woman sues nursing home in elderly mother's death

By Times Staff Writer
Published January 28, 2005

HERNANDO - An elderly woman's daughter has sued a Hernando nursing home, saying the facility's failure to care for her mother led to the woman's death.

Marti Barber is suing Woodlands Care Center of Citrus County Inc., a division of Woodland Terrace of Citrus County, and members of its governing body, according to court records. Barber's mother, Nettie Mae Harman, was a Woodland resident from Oct. 5, 2003, to Nov. 13, 2003, according to the suit. Barber accused the nursing home of negligence, saying Woodland and its employees violated, deprived and infringed on her mother's rights. The suit alleges that Woodland didn't adequately treat Harman's bed sores, keep up-to-date medical records or promptly report changes in Harman's condition to family members.
