The rap on booking Dogg

Who ever thought a Devil Rays jersey would be cool enough for the Doggfather?
How did Snoop Dogg end up getting booked at the 1,500-seat Jannus Landing when his song Drop it Like it's Hot has stayed in the top 10 since November? You can thank the Go-Gos, actually.
John "Jack" Bodziak, 32, the owner of Jannus Landing and a promoter of shows there and elsewhere, talks about Snoop and how fans find themselves doing shots with Hootie and the Blowfish after the show.
So how did such a hot name as Snoop Dogg end up at Jannus Landing?
A lot of the shows I have are through relationships with different agents. ... But this came through the booking of the Go-Gos. They are both represented by William Morris. The reason I was aggressive for the Go-Gos was it was my first concert. In 1980 my older sister took me to a Go-Gos concert at the Bayfront Center. ... I honestly feel the large part of the reason why I got the show -- and it's not like it's the usual type of show we have there -- is that I had built a relationship with them (William Morris).
Will there be an after party?
We'll have an after party at the State Theater. I'm trying to get the artist to go too. We'll sell tickets at the door for $10. But even if we can't get the artist down there, there will be local music and dancing.
Is there a master plan to get bigger names at Jannus Landing?
There's not necessarily a recipe I can give you. There is a giant learning curve to this. Before I got in this business I thought it was simple. Call an agent and say "I want to book your band." But then the agent will say "Sorry, I'm working with Jack on this." It's almost a glass ceiling at first.
What happens after the show
This is kind of a good tip. After the show I will go into the dressing room to thank the band and a lot of times they aren't ready to go back to the hotel and they want to hang out. The back of Jannus has a placed called the Tamiami Bar and these bands often end up there. G. Love and Special Sauce played all night with a local band. Better than Ezra did too after one of their first shows. Hootie and the Blowfish really partied with their fans afterard, jumped on the bar doing shots. It's kind of a treat for the people. The show ends and next thing they know John Popper (of Blues Traveler) is sitting next to them having a drink.
