CORAL SPRINGS - A 16-year-old boy on Monday became the fifth victim to die as the result of a two-car crash at a suburban intersection early Sunday.
A car carrying five teenagers collided with one carrying two women about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Coral Springs police said. They think speed was a factor and are trying to determine whether one of the cars ran a traffic light.
Killed in the crash were Anthony Anderson Reynolds, 18, of Margate; Dominique Winston Ferris, 17, of Margate; Marcela Juana Scotto Laos, 36, of Deerfield Beach; and Nancy Kalmer, 41, of Margate. Brandon Mychael Charles Sheffield of Coral Springs died Monday at North Broward Medical Center.
Two teens remain hospitalized, both in critical condition: Andre V. Bernard, 19, of Tamarac, at North Broward Medical Center; and Jonathane Halimmera, 16, of Fort Lauderdale, at Broward General Medical Center.
Coral Springs is 13 miles north of Fort Lauderdale.
