LEESBURG - Matt Steelfox and Daniel Dorn both scored twice as Citrus downed Crystal River 6-0 Monday in the Class 4A, District 9 tournament.
Steelfox scored his 29th and 30th goals of the season. Dorn got both of his goals on penalty kicks. Citrus (14-7-1), the third seed, faces No.2 Leesburg at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Leesburg defeated South Lake 6-0. Crystal River (8-13) lost to Citrus for the third time this season.
Dorn scored first, 11 minutes into the game. Steelfox scored on a pass from Dylan McManama 19 minutes in. Then in the 32nd minute Steelfox picked up his 30th goal of the season after taking a pass from Bodee Wright.
"I came into the game knowing we were going to manhandle them," Steelfox said. "We were pumped up for this game. It feels almost as good as a district title."
Dorn scored again on a penalty kick 44 minutes in. McManama also assisted when Cody Watt scored in the game's 38th minute.
TJ Indorato headed in a goal on a corner kick from Andy Stuart for the game's final score. Citrus outshot Crystal River 18-7.
The Citrus coach was concerned about a Pirate comeback.
"Crystal River is always a tough game," Andrew Castorina said. "I think we just came out and put a lot more pressure on them. I told them (Citrus) that Crystal River could score four goals in a half and to keep going."
The Crystal River coach knew his team was overmatched.
"We were outplayed," Bobby Verlato said. "We had a couple of communication mistakes on defense and our goalie made a couple of key mistakes. In the second half, we couldn't string anything together. They just bunkered (on) defense, played boomball and kept the ball away from us. They (Crystal River) came out really flat. We just didn't have it tonight."
