Two face charges in fatal accident

By Times Staff Writer

TAMPA - Investigators have filed charges against two men involved in an October accident in Riverview that left a motorcyclist dead.

Deputies said Kenneth Earl Pearce, 49, was heading south in his truck on Del Rio Drive when he turned east onto McMullen Loop into the path of two oncoming westbound motorcycles.

The motorcyclists, Robert Josef Reynolds, 33, and Joseph Allen Hughes, 48, could not brake in time to avoid hitting Pearce's pickup, investigators said.

Reynolds' motorcycle struck the front of the pickup. He was thrown onto its hood and then to the road. Hughes slid to the ground and also was thrown off his motorcycle.

The bikers, Riverview neighbors, were taken to Tampa General Hospital, where Reynolds died.

This week, investigators said they charged Pearce with violating right of way and driving while his license was suspended. Hughes faces a charge of driving under the influence.
