Pinellas County to sue Southeast

By Times Staff Writer
Published February 3, 2005

CLEARWATER - Pinellas County commissioners Tuesday voted to file a lawsuit seeking nearly $100,000 in unpaid rent and fees from Southeast Airlines, which abruptly ceased operations last year at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport.

The commission's decision to take legal action against theairline was a formality since Senior Assistant County Attorney Michael A. Zas had already filed the lawsuit Jan. 12, about six weeks after Southeast announced it was going out of business. The commission's stamp of approval ensures the county will have a better chance of recouping the $97,500 Southeast owes the county for rent, landing fees and other charges, Zas said.

Attempts to reach Southeast executives were unsuccessful Wednesday.
