Renaissance dinner is a whacky romp

TAMPA - Will the queen make it through the evening to announce the marriage of her daughter or will the rebellious sword-fighting server boy spoil the celebration? Witness the mayhem and merriment of the Renaissance Romp Dinner Theatre at the Museum of Science and Industry, 4801 E Fowler Ave.
Performances begin at 7 p.m. today and continue at 8 p.m. on Feb. 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 in the MOSI lobby.
The five-course dinner includes a mixed green salad, tomato bisque, braised lamb shank, raspberry sorbet and chocolate triangle dessert. Cost is $40 for adults, $15 for children and $25 for seniors. For MOSI members, cost is $36 for adults, $12 for children and $22.50 for seniors.

Plant High senior is a senate youth delegate
PALMA CEIA - Plant High School senior Andrew Brannan, 17, son of Dr. Anthony and Jane Brannan, was selected to be a delegate to the annual United States Senate Youth Program Feb. 26 through March 5 in Washington, D.C.
The delegates, two high school juniors or seniors from each state and the District of Columbia, will experience the political process and their national government in action, in particular, the U.S. Senate.
Students will visit Capitol Hill, the White House, Supreme Court, Pentagon and State Department. The William Randolph Hearst Foundation will pay all expenses, including transportation, hotel accommodations and meals. In addition, each delegate will receive $5,000 for undergraduate studies from the Hearst Foundation.
The 104 delegates were selected for their leadership qualities exhibited as student government officers. Brannan is vice president of the Plant High executive board and serves as speaker of the house of Florida YMCA Youth In Government.
Children's art classes run on Tuesdays
HISTORIC HYDE PARK - Hyde Park Art Studio, 702 S Albany Ave., and instructor Tim Gibbons offer children's art classes on Tuesdays, beginning next week and running through March 8.
Children ages 2 through 5 are invited to attend classes with an adult from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $25.
Space Art I, a creative three-dimensional art design and construction class for ages 7 to 12, will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $30.
Cartooning II, which explores the rules and techniques of cartooning and cartoon production for ages 7 to 12, will be held from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. Cost is $30.

Organizations sponsor screening of documentary
DOWNTOWN - The Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists and the University of Tampa present an advance screening of the PBS documentary Slavery and the Making of America at 7 p.m. today at UT's Plant Hall, 401 W Kennedy Blvd.
The event features a panel discussion by three two authorities on slavery and civil rights history, Eckerd College professor Greg Padgett, University of South Florida professor Ray Arsenault and Coastal Carolina University professor Charles Joyner. St. Petersburg Times columnist and TBABJ president Eric Deggans will moderate the panel.

Tampa chef represents Bucs at culinary charity
TAMPA - Tampa chef Marty Blitz of Mise en Place joins forces with other well-known chefs at the 14th Annual Taste of the NFL fundraiser on Saturday in Ponte Vedra.
Blitz has represented the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the culinary showdown for the past 13 years. Taste of the NFL, Super Bowl weekend's largest fundraiser, combines five-star cuisine, gridiron greats and live entertainment to benefit hunger relief agencies nationwide.
Mise en Place will showcase Blitz's Asian Salmon Rillettes on the menu through Sunday, as well as the Taste of the NFL cookbook. Mise en Place will donate the proceeds from the sales to local area food banks.
Divorce workshop helps people cope
HYDE PARK NORTH - An eight-week workshop for those dealing with divorce begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W Platt St. The workshop will focus on how to cope with divorce and how to help children through the process. Course book costs $17. Child care is available.
Also, Hyde Park UMC will offer a Wednesday Lenten worship service and lunch beginning Wednesday and continuing each Wednesday through March 23. A 30-minute worship service begins at 12:15 p.m. in the chapel, followed by a $5 soup and sandwich lunch in the Activities Center.

Coast Guard commander to address military group
TAMPA - The Tampa chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will host a luncheon at 11 a.m. Thursday at the MacDill Air Force Base Officers' Club. The guest speaker is Capt. A. Neptun, USCG, Group Commander, Coast Guard Group, St. Petersburg. Neptun is a veteran of more than 28 years of Coast Guard service along the Pacific Northwest and Atlantic coasts, plus tours in the Caribbean and the Great Lakes.
