Thanks to Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, this year's Super Bowl halftime show promises to be the kind your mother will love, and your Sunday school teacher, too.
He was thought of as edgy 40 years ago, but now Sir Paul McCartney is expected to deliver a wholesome family show at the traditional halftime event.
This will be McCartney's second Super Bowl appearance. He gave a moving performance before the start of the 2002 Super Bowl in New Orleans in 2002, five months after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.
The pregame show this year promises to be all things to all people with country star Gretchen Wilson playing with the Charlie Daniels Band. Then red-hot Black Eyed Peas will perform with disco kings Earth, Wind and Fire.
Alicia Keys will perform America the Beautiful in a special tribute to the late Ray Charles, who grew up near Jacksonville and attended a school for the blind in St. Augustine. Students from that school will accompany Keys for the song.
Fox is so nervous that the network changed the name of its lead-in show from Sports Net's Best Damn Sports Show Period to the Best Darn Super Bowl Road Show Period . The change occurred "because what's appropriate for cable television is not appropriate for broadcast," Fox executives said. Fox also rejected an ad for the cold remedy Airborne because it showed 84-year-old actor Mickey Rooney's naked backside.
