Behind the mike
Fisher

Pardon him if he looks disturbed. The state of modern-day radio has him perturbed.
Station: WSUN-FM 97.1 (97X).
Time slot: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., "The Morning X."
Hometown: Ocoee in Central Florida.
Road to here: After graduating from West Orange High School in Winter Park in 1990 (where he was voted class clown), Fisher studied at Valencia Community College and interned at WXXL-FM 106.7 in Orlando. Within a year he was disc jockeying weekends and performing promotional stunts for the station. He dropped out of college in 1994, and in 1995 moved to Tallahassee where he disc jockeyed at WXSR-FM 101.5 and WWLD-FM 102.3. In August 1996 he landed at WKRO-FM 93.1 in Daytona, and then moved to St. Petersburg in October 1998 to work at WLLD-FM 98.7. He left there in January 1999, returned to WKRO through August 1999, then came back to the bay area to work at WHPT-FM 102.5. He joined 97X in February 2001.
Favorite music acts: The Cure, Pearl Jam, Something Corporate, Bright Eyes, Lucky Boys Confusion, Cold Play, Dave Matthews Band, G. Love and Special Sauce, Lost Prophets, Pennywise, Flogging Molly, the Incredible Moses Leroy.
Hobbies: He's "obsessed" with golf. He generally shoots in the mid 80s with an 11.7 handicap. His favorite local courses include Lansbrook, Hernando Oaks, Innisbrook and Westchase. He also likes poker.
Most embarrassing/terrifying moment on the air: Once during his early days at WXXL, Fisher prerecorded his last break during the overnight shift since the DJ for the next shift arrived a few minutes early. "As I recorded I messed up twice and I said f---," recalled Fisher. After finally getting his recorded break right, he accidentally rewound the tape too far and then handed it over to the next DJ to play on the air. Fisher listened to himself unleash two f-bombs on the air while driving home from the studio. It was shortly after 6 a.m., and luckily, "Nobody important heard it," said Fisher.
Who will be the next big thing in music? "As for the next Linkin Park, I don't see anybody on the horizon," Fisher said. But he added that the Used and Taking Back Sunday might become minor MTV darlings.
What the radio industry needs now is: "A lot less people wearing suits. The industry as a whole sucks. Because of the telecom bill that was passed in 1996," which allowed greater consolidation of ownership for media outlets, "there's very little feeling or artistry or emotion left. They make sure everything is fully researched and done the most safely," to ensure advertising revenue. "Now you've got some moron sitting in a room somewhere with no clue as to what's going on in popular culture, running his tests, testing the music. And that's how decisions are made."
Heroes: "I don't have any heroes. I think that is one of the major problems we have. We have people that we look up to, and then when we find out they're not perfect, we get our bubble burst."
